30 Years

Thirty years have passed.

Thirty years, today.

I can’t really express in words how much Star Wars shaped my life. I honestly don’t remember a time without Star Wars. Granted, I was 3 1/2 when it came out. But that’s not the point.

I remember wanting to fly around in the Aluminum, er…sorry, the Millennium Falcon and climb into those cool gun turrets and blast away some Imperial Tie-Fighters.

I remember recreating the trash compactor scene with my buddy Matt Watkins in the muddy ditch in front of his grandmothers house, which I’m sure there may still be a couple of figures buried out there.

Playing with Paul Taylor and John Robert Jameson. Building scores of Tie-Fighters out of paper plates and Styrofoam cups, just to blow them up with firecrackers.

I remember waiting for my Dad to come home and give me a lightsaber. Which, I’m sorry to say, hasn’t happened yet.

Thirty years have passed.

Thirty years since a defiant young princess stood up to an oppressing galactic empire. Since two small, insignificant droids found themselves on a mission that would forever change the lives of all whose path they crossed.

Since a selfish smuggler found his place in the universe. Since a young man took his first step into a larger world.

Thirty years since George Lucas' sprawling space opera first inspired and amazed the world.

Here’s to another 30.

PS: Oh, and the rumor mill at Celebration 4 is that the Flannelled One just may announce this weekend that he wants to make another SW theatrical movie. This one set well before the Prequels. So, we’ll see…….

In other news, well, let’s see. It took a couple of weeks longer than originally planed, but my company finally moved to Richardson. So far the lights still work.

The house is coming together quite nicely. We’ve cooked out on Darcy’s old grill a few times now, and the results have been very pleasing. Pep has taken full reign of the house, so much so that I’m worried about her reaction to her new housemates, when they finally arrive.

And speaking of which, yeah, this is my last week of bachelorhood. So far, I’ve been pretty calm about it. It’s a new chapter of my life, and I can’t wait to see how it reads.

May The Force Be With You!
